Description: This calculator is intended to simplify the process of determining how far away from the target dimension a cabinet door or drawer front is. Currently I operate a large CNC router cutting out mostly cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The pieces I cut on the CNC router then get covered with a glued-on foil in the next step of the assembly line. In this context, I am in charge of ensuring that the pieces I create can be covered with this foil and still end up very close to the dimensions on the tag. According to my manager, the pieces I create need to be about 0.015 inches smaller than the dimensions on the tag, so that when the foil is put on them, they end up becoming dimensionally accurate. This means that I must occasionally cut and measure test pieces and update the relevant parameter(s) in the machine. This calculation process involves several steps that are both easy to forget and prone to human error, which is why I wanted to create this calculator. With this calculator, all I have to do is enter a chosen dimension from a tag, measure that same dimension using a caliper, enter that value, change the target offset if needed, and then hit calculate. The code will then take care of all the math and output all the info I need without me needing to do anything else. Maybe you also work in a similar role and could use this calculator as well! Feel free to use it and share it around however you like!
